1. Per the readings, what are some noticeable patterns/trends that you see in Social Media Strategies upcoming?
Augmented and virtual reality is a growing trend that showed up in multiple readings. AR and VR is increasing in popularity as a way to create unique and engaging user experiences.
A focus on cultivating engagement with invested followers and sports fans is a better strategy than posting for the sake of posting. There is more of a lean toward authentic, genuine engagement in communications, rather than mere frequency of content generation as a strategy. This strategy lends itself to the growing trend of segmenting audiences, and tailoring messages to those audiences. This will allow for a larger return on investment. "Likes" aren't as valuable as growing a relationship with someone from a supporter or fan to a purchaser or customer. Organizations are becoming more strategic in planning how social media is serving the needs of the organization as a whole.
2. How will social media affect things like sports/politics/etc.
36% of 19-36 year-olds get their news from social media. As Millenials and Gen Z get older, I think the utilization of social media as a news source will continue to increase in popularity, and the use of television will decrease. Because of this, I think tweeting politicians will continue to be normalized, as a way for them to engage their constituents and grow their base of supporters.
I want to know how crisis communication has developed as a result of social media, especially, in relation to the NFL as an organization.
